inspired by nature
Having been a bit of a nomad in my previous career, sailing.& messing about on boats, putting down roots in North Wales led me to study Fine Art & Sculpture.
I’ve always made things, and with my knowledge of what wood can do in a marine environment, it was a natural progression to find myself being drawn to furniture design
My first commission was for a seat - hence ‘noho’ a word which means to sit, to dwell to live.
Made simply out of locally sourced oak from the clients woodland it set a blueprint for exactly how I wanted to work. Using sustainably sourced native timber with traditional hand tools.
Working with individual pieces of timber I look to emphasise the character of the raw material in everything I make. My pieces are infuenced by my connection to the elements and you can often see sculptural gouges and mark making referencing nature’s weathering.
My work has evolved to incorporate other natural materials. From leather tension strings to hand cast bronze ties and wool seat cushions.
A comissioned piece of furniture becomes a part of your life in a way a shop bought item never could.
Having spent a lot of time on boats where all design is seamless it instilled in me a meticulous attention to detail which is evident in the finish of my work.
My commitment to that flawless finish alongside form, function and harmonious design means I hope my pieces will become heirloom objects that people will continue to cherish and dwell on for generations to come.
